GTBH 7/28/24: Skidding Toward The Deadline Wall

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  As of recording, the trade deadline is less than 48 hours away and it's still not clear what the Cardinals will do.  They plan to be buyers but Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) question if that is the right move for a team that feels like it's going to bob around .500 the rest of the way.  The club sent Giovanny Gallegos packing, but was it for performance or was it a salary issue and if it's the latter, well, what in the world is going on here?

The guys also talk about potential trade pieces from the Cardinals as well as try to make sense of Sonny Gray's recent struggles.  All this and the tightrope walking David does trying to stay cogent while on medication!

GTBH 7/21/24: A Good Southern Weekend

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  With the All-Star Break in the rear view mirror, Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) talk about the series against the Braves this weekend.  Winning two of three is all you could ask for, but it wasn't enough to keep from losing ground in the division.  How frustrating is that?  The Cards have been tied to Erick Fedde in the trade market.  Is that a good thing?  Are there some warning signs?  The lineup on Sunday had Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado out of the top 4.  How long will that last?  All this and much more!

GTBH 7/14/24: This Is The JJ

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis about the St. Louis Cardinals.  While the Cards finished up the first half on Sunday, the bigger news was happening in Texas.  Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) react to the selection of West Virginia SS JJ Weatherholt with the seventh overall pick.  How did a player projected to maybe go 1-1 wind up available for St. Louis?  Where is he going to play?  How exciting is it to have this sort of talent in the organization?

The guys do get to the action on the field as well, trying to decide how much of the recent surge is a team coming together and how much of it is the schedule.  What sort of concerns are there hanging around this team?  How much could the right move at the trade deadline impact the division or the wild card race?  Plus some talk about Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt to wrap it all up.

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  It wasn't always pretty but it was a successful week for the Cardinals, who have pushed deeper into the October picture with some victories.  How does the last week change the trade deadline picture?  How will the roster shake out with the returns of Lars Nootbaar, Ivan Herrera, and Tommy Edman?  What did David learn by watching the Memphis Redbirds this week?  Why did Ryan Helsley need MLB to step in and add him to the All-Star roster?  All that and some draft talk in this week's show!

GTBH 6/23/24: An Expected Sweep In an Unexpected Place

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  It was an eventful week for the Cards, playing games in three states and winning a majority of them, even if it wasn't how you'd expect.  Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) talk about different ways to look at the Marlins series, from disappointment to bump in the road.  They also discuss the Cardinals catching situation with the injury to Ivan Herrera as well as what the roster issues might be as people get healthy.  There's also talk about the pitching, including a salute to Sonny Gray's game on Sunday.  Finally, there's discussion about the Rickwood game and if there can be any icons any more.  Longer running time but hopefully worth it!

GTBH 6/16/24: A Great Holiday

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis about the St. Louis Cardinals.  The Cards took both series they played this week which should put a bounce in the step of Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor).  There's still a lot of questions around this team, like what are they going to do for offense when Pedro Pages gets demoted?  Miles Mikolas has been great and Andre Pallante has stepped up enough that the fifth starter question is about to get interesting.  All that and much more!

GTBH 6/10/24: Blogger and Podcaster Day at Busch

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) got together this weekend in Busch Stadium but that doesn't mean that they actually recorded anything.  Instead, with a couple of days to process, the guys get into what the experience was like both for the new guy (David) and the old veteran (Daniel, obviously).  They also discuss John Mozeliak's comments on player development, Jordan Walker, center field, the fifth starter, and much more as well as discussing the current state of the team.  Daniel tells stories of how things used to be and David tunes him out as is right and proper.

GTBH 6/2/24: True Brotherly Love

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  The Cardinals took a hot stretch into Philadelphia and were treated like a little brother that had violated their big brother's bedroom.  Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) recorded this as Game 3 was going on and the Cards tried to salvage something from the weekend.  Topics include: concern about Sonny Gray, excitement about Nolan Gorman, lots of praise for Masyn Winn (and then watching him make some misplays), Andre Pallante as fifth starter, and Jordan Walker's first homer.  Big show for a big week!

GTBH 5/27/24: Soggy Cardinals Still Soar

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  The Cardinals only lost one game this past week, so why are Daniel (@C70) and David (@iPopEditor) still stressing out?  After all, the club has made up ground in the division, swept the powerhouse Orioles, and won two rain-soaked games against the Cubs.  What's not to like?  Well, there's still some weak spots in the offense and the bullpen is putting off some warning lights.  Could there be help on the horizon?  And the guys also get into the surprising news of Angel Hernandez retiring.
