GTBH 5/3/20: A Few of Our Favorite Things

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  In this week's installment of Gateway, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) asks Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) how she is going to celebrate her first true Star Wars day before asking her about all the issues surrounding the minors right now.  Between contraction, the potential for new season, and what do up and coming stars (that have more up and coming to do) face in 2020, there's plenty there to discuss!  The two wrap with discussions about Yadier Molina and his newfound willingness to, perhaps, finish his career somewhere else.  May the Force be with you!

GTBH 4/26/20: You Do You, Spaghetti Man

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  This week, however, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) aren't talking baseball at all.  They are talking comedy with Ben Brainard (@Ben_Brainard), who is putting up some great Tik Tok material with his States Roundtable series.  (If you haven't seen any of these, it's like you are going shirtless to Mardi Gras in a pandemic.  Find these over at benbrainard.com!)  Ben talks about how he got started on this idea, what tipped him off that it was kind of a big deal, and a lot of his process and logistics on putting together these short sketches.  Come spend a little time with something a little different!

GTBH 4/12/20: One Unique Easter

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  It's Easter Sunday but, for many reasons, it doesn't really feel like it.  Besides the quiet churches, not having baseball on in the afternoon is very strange and Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) don't really care for it.  While there are rudimentary plans for returning baseball to action, there are a lot of problems with all of them.  That may mean that there's no 2020 season, which gets the two talking about how that will affect not only minor leaguers, but two of the team's legends as well.

GTBH 4/5/20: A Conversation Worthy of a Trophy

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  We are all still hunkered down with the quarantine so Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) get a bit off the beaten trail with their weekly discussion.  The home opener didn't happen, but a new landmark made it to downtown St. Louis.  So do you like the big championship trophy or not?  Both sides get aired out here.  There was a little talk with Mo this week as well, though how much was really news?  And is it better to shut down baseball for the year and start fresh next season?  A bit of a different show so we hope you like it!

GTBH 3/29/20: Continuing the Quarantine

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  It's another week without baseball--a week that should have included Opening Day--but there was a little bit of news anyway.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) talk a lot about the agreement between players and owners that deals with the season that might or might not happen.  There's plenty in there that doesn't work well for minor leaguers, which of course means Tara has some thoughts.  Also, shout out to Adam Wainwright for his generosity and get well soon, Jim Edmonds!

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  With minimal news to discuss this week due to the ongoing coronavirus shutdown, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) decides to focus on Tara's (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) brand.  Which means, of course, talk about the minor leagues and how both players and teams are doing with this time off, whether Kolten Wong has gone back to Hawaii, and what kind of coffee Tara is drinking.  Let us help you get through 30 minutes of quarantine!

GTBH 3/12/20: The Coronavirus Shutdown

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  Right now, though, there is only one piece of news that matters and you already know about it.  COVID-19 has swept throughout the world and North America has not been immune, so MLB has shut down to try to keep from spreading the virus.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) are joined by Allen Medlock (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) as they go over all the various aspects of this historic event.  When will baseball be back?  How will the players react to an interrupted spring training?  All that and much, much more in a crossover event nobody wishes was necessary.

GTBH 3/8/20: A Little More Sunshine

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) give you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  It may be the strangest way that "baseball works itself out", but the bench situation got a little clearer this weekend when Yairo Munoz took his ball (or at least his equipment) and went home.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Bat, @tarawellman) talk about what this means for Munoz, why he should have waited a few days, and if the team will really notice his departure.  (I mean, it took a few days.....)  They also discuss the Cardinals' renewing Jack Flaherty's contract plus what the injury to Andrew Miller means for the pitching staff.  So much to talk about it allowed us to fight off the tired from losing an hour of sleep!

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  Spring training is in full swing and while the stats may need to be taken with a grain of salt, they are worth talking about.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) talk about the seeming depth of the pitching staff and all the possibilities and permutations that the rotation and bullpen could take on to start the season.  Can Austin Gomber or Daniel Ponce de Leon force their way onto the roster?  How do you use arms like Genesis Cabrera or Junior Fernandez?  Plus they talk about the offense and get into why it is possible to justify Dylan Carlson starting at Memphis without using service time as an issue.  Come talk some baseball!

GTBH 2/23/20: We Have Baseball, People!

Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals.  The Cards played baseball this weekend!  Sure, it was just two games and you really can't draw a lot of conclusions about them, but Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Tara (Birds on the Black, @tarawellman) had fun discussing them anyway.  (There's a little bit of a rabbit trail about conditioning which leads to minor league talk, but you aren't really surprised about that, are you?)  Harrison Bader, Tyler O'Neill, and Matt Carpenter are off to good starts.  Can they continue?  How much do you put into some early homers, anyway?  All that and a bit on one of the surprising options for the rotation.  Baseball is back!
